Cleansing. It’s super boring, isn’t it? That’s why we can’t be bothered to do it and go to bed with our makeup on. That and being drunk.

The only way around this I have found is to have a bunch of cleansers that aren’t boring, and rotate them depending on levels of ennui. If I’m really up for it I might use a Magnitone cleansing brush. But if I can’t be arsed then it’s a quick swish with a Konjac sponge and some water. But always something. Any cleanser is more effective than the one you leave unused in the bathroom cabinet.

And now my ongoing quest for non-boring cleansers has led me to the product you see above: Rilakkuma All Clean Lip & Eye Remover by A’PIEU. It’s got a little teddy bear and it takes your mascara off, what more could you want?

A’PIEU are a fairly well-regarded Korean beauty brand who were maybe a little stuffy until they came out with their Rilakkuma collaboration. Rilakkuma is a popular Japanese cartoon character. The name means RelaxBear, and his main characteristic is being incredibly lazy. The little bird on the bottle is Kiiroitori, Rilakkuma’s friend who loves cleaning. That’s why the bear looks kind of hacked off to be cleaning, but the bird looks extra smug about it. We’re all on the bear’s side here, aren’t we?

So apart from being a meditation on the ultimate futility of cleaning, how does it stack up as a skincare product?

The good thing about Korean beauty products is that even the high street basics are usually going to be good quality. At under £10 this is no exception. Ain’t no mascara going to be messing with this.

It’s a bi-phase product, and the two layers you can see are cornflower fluid and the green tea seed oil. Shake it up to combine, then pop some on a cotton wool pad and use it to remove eye and lip make up. It’s gentle but strong enough to remove waterproof makeup. And though it’s scented with calendula, I didn’t find it irritating at all. A good one for my collection of cute Korean beauty products.

I bought this here at Jolse.com for $10.48 / £8.77. Jolse is a reliable Korean beauty site which I have used many times. It ships free worldwide and orders take around two weeks to get to the UK. If you’re in search of a decent eye makeup remover but don’t want to wait then I recommend the Camomile Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover by The Body Shop.
