Review: Jan Marini Bioglycolic Face Cleanser

jan marini bioglycolic face cleanser

Before Christmas I introduced you to the lovely special edition Holiday Exfoliator from Jan Marini Skin Research and today, we’re looking at a year-round classic from the brand, their Bioglycolic Face Cleanser.

This cleanser has a secret up its sleeve in the shape of the natural exfoliant, Glycolic Acid. You might have seen Glycolic Acid as a feature of resurfacing toners such as Pixi Glow Tonic or Alpha-H Liquid Gold. It removes dead skin cells on the surface of the face and helps to encourage collagen production.

The resurfacing properties of GA are used to treat many skin conditions such as acne, acne scarring, ageing and hyper-pigmentation. Exfoliating like this also means that whatever serum or moisturiser you put on the skin afterwards will penetrate better.

So essentially the Jan Marini cleanser, which contains 12% of GA is doing two jobs at once, meaning that you don’t have to use an extra toner as well.

I have been putting these secret powers to use to see if it can make a Tardis disappear – turns out that it can!

This is a non-foaming, creamy cleanser, suitable for all skin types (though not suitable for removing eye make-up). It also contains sorbitol, a natural humectant derived from berries, which leaves the skin soft and hydrated. I’ve been using it for about six weeks now and I like it a lot. It’s great for when you’re in a hurry (ie drunk at Christmas) or just can’t be bothered with a separate toner. The packaging is very simple, but the sealed bottle and pump action keeps it hygienic and easy to use.

It does a thorough but gentle job of cleansing the skin, leaving it lovely and smooth but not feeling tight or dry afterwards. What I particularly like is how it helps the skin feel consistently smoother over time, so even though you’re just using it for cleansing, you can see the benefit all day long.

Jan Marini is a well-established California-based brand with a strong emphasis on innovative technology, which is probably why you might not have seen another product like this which combines cleansing and toning in one step. Buy it for the beautiful skincare geek in your life (ie that’s you).

Directions for use:
Use on dry skin. Apply a small amount (1 pump); massage over the face and neck area. Leave on the skin a for a couple of minutes. Rinse face and neck well and blot dry.
