A few weeks ago I introduced you to ARK Skincare, the age positive UK beauty brand. Since then I’ve been trying out another ARK product: Skin Protector SPF 30 Primer.

This multi tasker is a good bridge to see you through into winter, as it does SPF, primer and moisturising duties at once.

I think you have to be careful with multi tasking products because there’s always the danger that the whole will add up to less than the sum of its parts. But this one has won awards for both Best Primer and Best Facial Sunscreen, and my experience is that it does the task well on both fronts. I was wearing this during the recent hot spell and my face didn’t suffer in the sun at all.

It’s also very moisturising and gives quite a glowy finish, to the point where you can get away without using a separate moisturiser. I took it on a weekend away and it was very handy to only have to pack one product instead of three.

Skin Protector key ingredients

One caveat here though – it’s shea butter taking the lead on moisturising, which I know some people find clogs their pores. That said, I haven’t had a problem with this one, which could be because the shea butter is quite far down the list of ingredients so there won’t be a lot of it in there.

As a sun screen it offers broad spectrum defence against UVA and UVB rays with an advanced active antioxidant system to protect against the effects of pollutants. It’s a lightweight white fluid but I didn’t find that it left any white cast on the skin

Other key ingredients include Vitamin E and extracts of jojoba, mimosa and sunflower which are packed with vitamins and minerals.

It does contains dimethicone, but not so much of it that you get that overly slippy, plasticky feel that sometimes comes with silicone primers. I found it worked well in conjunction with other products and there was no issue with bits rubbing off when I put make up on top of it. Sometimes the benefit of a product is in what it doesn’t do as much as what it does. This is a quality product and I hope you get the chance to give ARK Skin Protector a try.
