retinol serum by skin chemists

If you’re looking for a retinol serum, let me introduce you to Pure Retinol Biphase serum by Skin Chemists of London.

Also, in the spirit of seasonal cheer, scroll down for a code to snap it up for less than a fiver. You’re welcome.

What is retinol?

Retinol is a favourite ingredient of dermatologists, with research confirming its effectiveness dating back 30 years.

Essentially it’s a powerful form of Vitamin A, which helps to speed up cell turnover. The skin then renews itself faster, revealing healthier, softer skin below. It’s also effective in tackling blemishes and fading dark spots and hyperpigmentation. It’s one of those ingredients that actually does minimise fine lines, so long as you use it consistently.

Retinol is best used at night, and it’s very important to use a facial sunscreen alongside it, as the fresh skin it reveals will be slightly more vulnerable to sun damage.

The percentage of retinol in Pure Retinol Biphase Serum is 0.3%. This is a starter level, making it perfect for anyone new to using retinols, or for those of you with sensitive skin. Higher percentages of retinol are available, but it’s best to work up to those because they can cause irritation and flakiness.

It’s a biphase serum, so you need to shake it up a little before using, then apply two or three drops to cleansed skin using the enclosed glass dropper. It has a very silky, lightweight feel and sinks into skin quickly.

I haven’t used it for long enough to be able to judge its effectiveness, but retinol is one of those things you need to be persistent with. For now I can say this is a comfortable, quality serum. If you’ve been thinking of giving retinol a try I hope the code comes as an early Christmas gift. Let me know how you get on!
