Last time we looked at why our hair gets thinner with age. It seemed fitting to follow up with a new hair thickening shampoo and conditioner I’ve been trying out.
HASK say that their products are used by Hollywood hair stylists on more film and TV sets than any other brand. The brand has contributed to the glossy locks of the stars of Suits, A Star is Born, American Horror Story, Stranger Things and many more. Even the bottles have been used as props in shows including Big Little Lies, Grace & Frankie and Queer Eye.
Despite the Hollywood connections, this is an impressively affordable brand, running at around £6.99 a bottle (and currently terrific value at less than a fiver at Superdrug).
Hair thickening Hollywood style
I was sent the HASK Biotin thickening shampoo and conditioner, plus a deep conditioning treatment to try out. I’ve been using them for a couple of weeks, washing my hair every other day, so about 6 times so far.
Both contain biotin (for volume), collagen (for strength) and coffee (for boosting strands, though I’m not sure what they mean by that, it’s very vague). They’re free from sulfates, parabens and artificial colours.
First off, I’d say that these are not instant effect type of products. Nor would you want them to be, because you’d very soon get excess product build up if that was the case. I would say my hair is slightly thicker, but not wildly so. What I’ve particularly noticed is added smoothness, shine and slightly pumped up volume. If you have dry hair but you don’t want too heavy a conditioner then this is a good choice.
The scent is quite reminiscent of the sea, kind of hairdresser-by-the-beach. I like the way my hair feels after using them and I could definitely see myself buying HASK hair care again.
Speaking of all the feels, I also tried out one of the HASK range of Deep Conditioning treatments.
This comes in a 50g sachet, so depending on the length of your hair you should get several uses out of it. As you can see from the packaging, it’s inspired by red wine. And indeed it does smell a bit boozy when first applied. Thankfully the scent doesn’t linger after the final rinse so you don’t end up smelling like a barfly.
What does linger is an incredible softness and shine. If frizzy hair is your issue then this will smooth it down a treat.
